ABC link exchange

Track every ABC link exchange without the confusion

An ABC link exchange has three sites and three links. SEOENV keeps every leg in one record and checks each one, so a broken leg never hides.

Free plan: 20 links, 2 clients, 2 projects. Paid plans from $29/mo.

ABC exchange record with three legs between sample sites A, B and C, each with its own status
The problem

Three sites, three links, and a lot to remember.

ABC swaps are hard enough to agree. They are harder to keep track of.

In an ABC exchange, site A links to site B, B links to C, and C links back to A. Nobody links directly to the site that links to them, which is the point, and also why it is hard to follow in a spreadsheet. When one leg breaks, the other two parties carry on giving without getting.

What is an ABC swap?

Three sites link in a loop.

A links to B, B links to C, C links to A.

Teams use three-way swaps so that no two sites link straight back to each other. That makes the arrangement less obviously reciprocal, but it adds a leg to track and a partner to coordinate.

  • Direct swap: two sites, two links.
  • ABC swap: three sites, three links, one loop.
  • Same rule applies: keep it relevant and editorial, or do not do it.

ABC Link Exchange

Every leg in one record.

Sites A, B and C, the partners and each link together.

ABC Link Exchange stores the three legs of the loop in one record, with source and target for each. Every leg is checked like any other link, so the record shows which part of the loop is Active and which is not.

  • One record per loop: no more three tabs for one deal.
  • Spot the broken leg: each leg has its own status.
  • Plan the next one: pick sites from Site Inventory.
Before you agree one

Questions to settle before a three-way swap.

  • Who owns each site? Write down the owner and contact for A, B and C. The loop only holds if all three parties stay engaged.
  • Which pages and anchors? Agree all three placements up front so no leg is weaker than the others.
  • When does each leg go live? Publishing all three in the same week makes the record simple and stops one party waiting on the others.
  • What happens if a leg breaks? Decide in advance whether the affected party gets a replacement link or the arrangement ends.
  • Is it worth it? If the three sites are not genuinely relevant to each other, skip the swap. Relevance matters more than the structure.

Three legs. One record.

Every leg of the loop checked like any other link.

Why we built SEOENV

ABC swaps were the deals we most often lost track of, because nobody ever saw the whole loop. A three-way swap is still an exchange, so the same caution applies: only take part in ones you would defend editorially.
